Vol. 72 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is in a position to state (1) the total amount of money advanced by the Dublin Corporation under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts from the year 1932, to date; (2) the number of cases in which the Dublin Corporation was forced to realise houses owing to the default of the purchasers; and (3) the total estimated loss to the ratepayers occasioned by defaults of house purchasers.

1. Loans amounting to £1,157,357 in the aggregate have been advanced by the Dublin Corporation to borrowers under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts during the period 1932 to date. 2. The corporation were forced to realise in seven cases during this period owing to the default of borrowers, and negotiations for sale are pending in one further case. 3. The actual loss incurred in connection with the seven houses referred to amounted to £740, approximately.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, is that not a very small percentage as a result of which to cut down the advances on houses by 20 per cent.?
