Vol. 74 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment Figures for 1938.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total estimated fulltime employment for the year 1938 as deduced from the net national health insurance contributions income for that year.

Taking the average contribution at 7.7d. per week, the average number of persons employed in occupations insured under the National Health Insurance Acts in each week of 1938 estimated from provisional figures for the net contribution income of the National Health Insurance Fund in that year was 416,000. The expressions "net contribution income" and "in each week" are used in the same sense as in the memoranda on "The Trend of Employment and Unemployment," P. Nos. 1852, 2642 and 3142.
