Vol. 74 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have yet acquired the Aylmer estate at Newtown, Naas, County Kildare; and, if so, when the lands will be divided.

Mr. Boland

The Aylmer estate, Record No. S.8806, containing 341 acres 3 roads 0 perches of the lands of Baysland and Newtown has been acquired by the Land Commission and it is hoped to divide the greater part of the lands within the next few weeks.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have yet acquired the lands at present held by Mr. George Cope at Aylmerstown and Graney West, on the Cope estate at Castledermot; and, if so, when the lands are likely to be divided.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have not acquired the lands of Mr. George Cope in the townlands of Aylmerstown, Ballynacarrick Lower and Graney West. It is not possible at present to state whether or when the lands will be acquired.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the lands at present held by Mr. T.W. Greene at Beaconstown and Kilkea, Castledermot; and, if so, when the lands are likely to be acquired and divided.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission are not yet in a position to state what action they may take in regard to the lands of Beaconstown and Kilkea held by Thomas W. Greene.

Can the Minister say when the Land Commission will be in a position to make up its mind with regard to these lands?

Mr. Boland

I am not in a position to answer that question.

Does the Minister hope to be able to do so shortly?

Mr. Boland

I am not able to give you any hope in that matter.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the lands of Mr. M. Dobbin, Belan, Moone, County Kildare (Best estate), for division; and, if so, when the lands are likely to be divided.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission are not yet in a position to state what action they may take in regard to the lands of Belan held by Michael Dobbin.

Why are the Land Commission unable to say what action they may take?

Mr. Boland

Because the enquiries have not been completed.

Is the Minister aware that 18 months ago he said that enquiries with regard to the acquisition and division of these lands had been instituted? Does it take the Land Commission that length to enquire into the suitability of lands to be acquired and divided?

Mr. Boland

There are more places than this to be considered. There are plenty of small estates all over the country that may have to be inquired into as well as this one. The Deputy must not imagine that the Land Commission is doing nothing else but this type of work.

One would be inclined to imagine that.

Mr. Boland

I can assure the Deputy that that is not so. We have plenty of other work.

I am prepared to admit, as a matter of fact, that it is doing something else elsewhere.

Mr. Boland

In every part of the country.

If that is the excuse, can the Minister give an intimation as to how soon a decision will be arrived at?

Mr. Boland

I cannot.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission propose to acquire the estate of the representatives of P.J. and Catherine Nolan at Carrigeen North, Castledermot; and, if so, when the lands are likely to be acquired and divided.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have directed that an inspection be made of the lands of Carrigeen North and on completion of the inspection the question of the acquisition of the lands will be considered.
