Vol. 74 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Wexford Lough.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will urge the Land Commission to speed up the drainage of the Lough of Tacumshane, County Wexford, as most of the flooded land is under tillage and ploughing must be done on it, if this sowing season is not to be lost.

Mr. Boland

The question of the drainage of Tacumshane Lake is at present under consideration, but the Land Commission are not yet in a position to state what action, if any, may be taken in the matter. There will be no avoidable delay in reaching a decision.

Is the Minister aware that the flooding of these lands was reported several times not only last year but the year before and the year before that? Is he aware that there are 32 farmers affected by the flooding of these lands, that one farmer had to shift his stock, as his cowshed and piggeries were flooded, and that there is another small farmer with seven acres of land on an island which he can neither till nor graze? Surely to goodness these farmers ought to get compensation anyway.
