Vol. 82 No. 7

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement of Fergus Embankment.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that improvement of the Fergus Embankment at Doora, County Clare, has now been under consideration by his Department for three years and if he can say whether and, if so, when the said work is likely to be expedited in view of the need for employment in the area.

The responsibility for the maintenance of the Fergus Drainage District has been the subject of proceedings in the High Court since April, 1937. The case was adjourned in January, 1939, with a view to settlement of the action and negotiations for an agreement are now well advanced. The settlement proposals provide for works on the embankments. Legislation will, however, be required before the Commissioners of Public Works can undertake any works on the drainage district.
