Vol. 83 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief for Farmers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the pre carious position of suppliers in districts in which the creameries have been closed as a result of foot-and-mouth disease, he will take such steps as he considers necessary, whether by the granting of credit or otherwise, to bring relief to those farmers.

I do not consider that it would be feasible to arrange for the granting of credit to farmers in the circumstances mentioned. Measures are, however, being taken which will guard against the spread of infection through the medium of creameries, and arrangements will be made to reopen creameries in the affected areas at the earliest possible date.
