Vol. 85 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Evacuation Plans.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that many schools have arranged to evacuate to large houses in the country and have laid in stocks in these places; if the Minister is aware that the military authorities are now coming round and requisitioning these premises; and, if so, if he is prepared to compensate the schools for any loss they suffer.

I am aware that certain schools and colleges have arranged to evacuate to houses in the country, but I am aware of only one case where stocks have been laid in. Some of these houses have been earmarked by the military authorities for possible occupation, and, in the event of any loss being incurred by the schools and colleges as the result of such occupation, I am prepared to consider the question of compensation.
