Vol. 87 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Diseases in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is in a position to state from the reports of the West Cork County Medical Officer of Health the number of children who have suffered from rickets, malnutrition and a disease commonly called greenstick, in the electoral divisions of Adrigole, Kilcaskan and Glengariff, in the Bantry County Council area of West Cork, for the years 1939, 1940 and 1941.

The reports of the County Medical Officer of Health for Cork County do not give statistics for the areas mentioned by the Deputy. They show, however, that in the whole of West Cork area there were five children who suffered from rickets in the year 1939, one in 1940 and one in 1941, and the number of cases of malnutrition are recorded as 35, 89 and 84 for the years 1939, 1940 and 1941, respectively. There is no reference in the reports to greenstick.
