Vol. 88 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why each of the following members of the Old I.R.A., Drogheda area, failed in his claim for a military service pension: (1) George Owens, Mount St. Oliver; (2) James O'Brien, Mount St. Oliver; (3) Thomas Morgan, Hand Street; (4) John McConville, Duleek Street; (5) Henry Fairclough, Moran Terrace; (6) Christopher McGrath, Beamore Road; (7) Walter Coombes, Beamore Road; (8) John Kierans, Stockwell Street; (9) Patrick Clarke, James's Street; (10) John Stafford, Trinity Gardens; (11) Patrick Kinsella, Platten Road; (12) John Connor, Dale Street; (13) Michael Bateson, James's Street; (14) Robert McCabe, St. Mary's Villas; (15) John Johnston, Magdalene Street; (16) James Morgan, Sunnyside; (17) John Maher, Hardmans Garden; (18) Patrick Maher, Sunnyside Cottages; (19) John Brady, Donore Road.

All the applications under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, of the persons referred to by the Deputy, with the exception of that of Thomas Morgan, were refused because the evidence adduced in their cases was not such as to establish to the satisfaction of the referee that the service rendered by them was active service for the purposes of Sections 2 and 3 of the Act. The referee has not yet reported to me on the application of Thomas Morgan.
