Vol. 88 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garristown Nurse's Motor Permit.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that considerable hardship, which may have serious results, is being inflicted on people in Garristown dispensary area due to the revocation of the motor permit granted to Mrs. M.A. Fanning, maternity nurse, Garristown; and if he is prepared to have the permit and petrol allowance restored to her.

I am not aware that considerable hardship which may have serious results is being inflicted on people in the Garristown dispensary area due to the revocation of the motor permit granted to Mrs. Fanning. But even if the facts were as suggested by the Deputy, I could not accept the suggestion that for this reason the permit should be restored, because a similar argument could be advanced in the case of very many other permit-holders, and acceptance of such argument would make it impossible to enforce the regulations about the use of motor cars.

Mrs. Fanning's motor permit was revoked because the vehicle was used by a member of her family to carry workmen and parts of farm machinery on the 3rd September last. I have specially considered this case, but cannot see my way to restore the permit and petrol allowance.
