Vol. 88 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel Situation in Rathcoole.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state whether representations have been made to him concerning the fuel situation in Rathcoole; and whether it will be possible to provide fuel for the people of Rathcoole area at a reasonable cost.

It has been represented to me that the people of Rathcoole are finding difficulty in obtaining supplies of fuel. I find that no merchant in Rathcoole holds a fuel merchant's licence, and that the parish council which arranged for the distribution of timber fuel last year has ceased to function. I am prepared to grant a fuel merchant's licence for this district which would enable the holder to sell turf at a price not exceeding that fixed for turf outside the scheduled turf area. No licence is required for the sale of timber fuel.
