Vol. 88 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maximum Prices for Perambulators.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will fix maximum prices for new and secondhand perambulators.

The manufacturers' prices for perambulators have been subject to control under special arrangements by my Department since the outbreak of war. Retail prices, which have not been controlled by Order, have also been reviewed from time to time. Owing to the large variety in the types and qualities of these articles, control by Retail Price Order presents technical difficulties but, in the event of any attempt by traders to exploit a position of shortage, I will be prepared to examine the position further.

Is the Minister satisfied that that attempt to exploit a position of shortage has not already started on the part of some traders?

I have no evidence of that.

Has the demand for perambulators increased?

I have no evidence of that either.
