Vol. 89 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athy Caretaker's Wages.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has received a request from the County Kildare Vocational Education Committee to authorise an increase of 5/- per week to Mr. Joseph Cowlard, who is employed as a caretaker and gardener by the Athy Sub-Committee of the Vocational Education Committee, and if he will state whether he intends to authorise the increase; and, if so, what is the cause of the delay in doing so.

A proposal as indicated was made in January last by the County Kildare Vocational Education Committee and was duly notified to the Department. The proposal could not be dealt with until a decision had been reached regarding the general question of the payment of an emergency bonus to employees of local authorities. Arrangements regarding that matter are now almost completed, and the proposal in question will be dealt with in accordance with those arrangements.

Could the Minister indicate when the decision is likely to be announced?

The arrangements have been completed, I understand.

But when will the decision implementing the arrangements be announced?

In the near future, I suppose.

But when in the near future? It will be in the future, in any case.

Without any undue delay; as quickly as possible.
