Vol. 89 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vocational Teachers' Bonus.

asked the Minister for Education if it is proposed to pay a bonus to teachers employed in vocational schools; and, if so, if he will state the amount of such bonus, and from what date it will be payable.

The question of the payment of an emergency bonus to teachers employed in vocational schools has been under consideration, and it has been decided to grant permission to vocational education committees to pay such a bonus, subject to certain conditions. Some matters of detail in connection with the arrangements are not yet finally settled, and pending the completion of these details, I would prefer not to make a statement on the subject, as a partial statement might lead to misunderstanding. I expect to be in a position to communicate particulars of the scheme to vocational education committees in the near future.

Has the Minister any idea of what "the near future" means in that connection? All other teachers have got the bonus, but these teachers are still left without it.

Without undue delay; as soon as possible.
