Vol. 93 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar for Jam Making.

asked the Minister for Supplies if, owing to the shortage of jam and the desirability of encouraging fruit growing, he will grant during the coming fruit season a special allowance of sugar to private individuals for jam making, which may be used either with their own or purchased fruit.

It is not intended to make any special allocation of sugar during 1944 to enable private individuals to make jam.

Does the Minister not realise the small quantities of jam that ordinary individuals are getting now, and does he not realise that the making of allocations of sugar to people would help the situation con siderably?

I do not think so; in fact, our experience has shown the opposite.
