Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Appeals under Military Service Pensions Act.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of appeals on oath under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, received from the Longford Brigade from 1st January, 1944, to date; the number of appeals accepted and the number rejected and the dates on which rejection notices were signed and posted to the various parties; whether in the rejection cases no additional evidence was put forward on their claims; and further, what is considered to be satisfactory additional evidence, in view of the fact that certificates and statements by commanding officers and others were forwarded in every appeal.

The number of appeals under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, received from the Longford Brigade during the period from 1st January, 1944, to date is 169. I have directed the referee to review his report in four of these cases, and in the remaining 165 cases the question as to whether the evidence submitted is additional evidence is still under consideration.

Satisfactory additional evidence has been defined by the Attorney-General as evidence which is not available at the time the referee made his original report, and which has only since become available.
