Vol. 94 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar Allocation for Jam Manufacturers.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that very serious damage was done to the bumper apple crop by the wind storm on 1st September, and that in many orchards tons of the fruit are now on the ground; and, if so, if he will consider the desirability of giving an increased allocation of sugar to jam manufacturers so as to encourage them to purchase marketable "windfalls" and thereby ensure that a valuable food shall be preserved for the people.

Every effort has been and is being made to make available to jam manufacturers, within the limits of the stocks held, adequate supplies of sugar to enable them to take up all fruit on offer.
