Vol. 95 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beet Growers' Sugar Supplies.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether he is aware that where the families of two or more beet growers reside in the same house, only one of them is recognised as a householder for the issue of sugar buying permits; and whether he will alter the rule so as to render the head of each family eligible under the scheme where he is satisfied that there is, in fact, more than one family occupying the same house.

I am not aware that where the families of two or more beet growers reside in the same house only one beet grower's sugar permit is issued. The position is that the maximum quantity of sugar which may be obtained under special permit by any one household may not exceed four stones. I cannot see my way to authorise any one household to purchase a special allowance of sugar in excess of this quantity.
