Vol. 95 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Wool.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is satisfied that the price of wool in the coming season will be at least as good as in 1944; and, if not, if he will take such steps as may be necessary to prevent any serious reduction.

I cannot say whether the price of wool in the coming season will be as good as in 1944 but no change is contemplated in the maximum prices for fleece wool set out in the Emergency Powers (Fleece Wool and Skin Wool) (Maximum Prices) Order, 1944.

Is the Minister not prepared to take any steps to secure that the price will be at least as good as last year? Is he not prepared to announce, at least, the introduction of some scheme to restrict the importation of wool in the future? Such an announcement would have an improving effect on the industry.

My function, as Minister for Supplies, is to control the maximum price.
