Vol. 96 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Removal of Beach Material.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) how many licences to remove beach material (seaweed) from the foreshore at Drumbuoy, Newtown-cunningham, County Donegal, have been issued; (b) the names of the holders of such licences (if any); (c) whether licences of this type carry on the face of them any warning that they do not confer on the holder any right to cross private property in gaining access to, or egress from, the foreshore, and that the permission of the owner of such property should be obtained; and, if not, if he will consider having such a warning embodied in all future licences.

One licence has been issued authorising the removal of seaweed from the foreshore at Drumbuoy, Newtowncunningham, County Donegal. The name of the licensee is John McCallion. Licences authorising the removal of beach material from State-owned foreshore contain no reference to means of access to or egress from the foreshore. I see no objection, however, to the insertion in licences of a warning to the effect that no right-of-way over private property is conferred and I am arranging for such an insertion in future licences.
