asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, for each of the years 1924-1944, inclusive, and for such part of the year 1945 as the information is available, the following:—(a) the value of the visible imports into this country; (b) the value of the visible exports and re-exports from this country (distinguishing for each of the said years the percentage of (a) and (b) which came from or went to countries other than Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and indicating for each of the said years the value of exports and re-exports of industrial products); (c) the balance of trade, and (d) the balance of payments.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import and Export Statistics.
Particulars of the balance of payments are available as from the year 1933 to 1943, and have been published in the annual issues of the Statistical Abstract commencing with that for the year 1937. These figures together with a textual analysis have also been published regularly in the quarterly Irish Trade Journal.
The rest of the information required by the Deputy is given in a tabular statement which I propose to circulate with the Official Report. The following is the information required:—
