Vol. 98 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Activities.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if it is the intention of the Land Commission to resume the acquisition of estates for division among uneconomic land owners at an early date; and if, in view of the requirements of the increased tillage campaign, he will request the Land Commission to expedite division, and thus relieve the small land owners.

The policy of land division for the relief of congestion, though restricted by emergency conditions, has not been suspended, and it is of course the intention of the Land Commission to continue their work of land settlement. In the immediate future, however, their activities in this respect are likely to be limited by the present shortage of materials (particularly building materials), by difficulties of transport and by shortage of trained inspectors.
