Vol. 98 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condemned Houses—Tenants' Compensation Claims.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if an arbitrator has been appointed to deal with the applications of tenants being removed from their homes condemned as unfit for habitation under the Gloucester Diamond (Section 2) Compulsory Purchase Order of October, 1941, and if he will state when the arbitrator will sit to consider the claims for compensation.

The matter of the appointment of an arbitrator is not one for me. It rests with the Land Values Reference Committee, Four Courts, Dublin, on the application of the local authority, in this case the Dublin Corporation of which the Deputy is a member. He may consider, therefore, taking up the matter with the Dublin Corporation.

Is the Minister aware that the corporation has made the application, and has been held up waiting for the sanction of the Department of Local Government, for which the Minister is responsible? Would the Minister inquire into the matter and see what is the cause of the delay?

The Deputy has been guilty of a gross misstatement. I hope he has not been wilfully guilty of it.
