Vol. 100 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soil Content of Arable Land.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he proposes to ascertain, by the method of random samples, some information regarding the deficiencies which exist in the soil content of our arable land so that an estimate can be made of the future requirements of the land in order to restore it to its pre-emergency fertility.

The results of the analyses of soil samples being received from the instructors in agriculture in various parts of the county provide information of the kind mentioned by the Deputy. They indicate a general deficiency in available phosphates and a somewhat lesser deficiency in potash and nitrogen as well as a lime deficiency in certain areas.
