Vol. 101 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laoighis County Council Inquiry.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the reasons for the continued delay in forwarding the report of his findings on the sworn inquiry [1027] into the affairs of Laoighis County Council; and if the report may be expected within the next month or earlier.

A decision cannot be taken until the evidence has been fully considered. A decision will be communicated to the county council at an early date.

Can the Minister say what is the cause of the delay in considering the evidence? That evidence was heard by inspectors sent down from the Minister's Department, and further facts were communicated by those in authority who were at the inquiry. All the facts that came before the inquiry are at the Minister's disposal. In those circumstances, what is the reason for the delay in arriving at findings?

The facts were not placed at my disposal until a comparatively recent date.

I should like to know if the Minister is giving his full time in the Custom House to the consideration of Departmental matters, or is he giving most of his time there to the writing of Fianna Fáil letters?

The Deputy ought to go back to the nursery.

I can refer to a letter written by the Minister within the past three days.

Obviously it got under the Deputy's skin.

I suggest the Minister should write those letters in his own time and not in the taxpayers' time. They should be written from the Fianna Fáil headquarters. The Minister should be careful of his address the next time he is writing.
