Vol. 103 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Clothing.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if a reduction in the price of clothing is likely in the near future.

The price of clothing is determined to a great extent by the cost of the materials which have to be imported. There is no evidence yet of any downward trend in the cost of such materials. As the other factors affecting prices, including wages, are not likely to fall in the near future, it would in my opinion be unduly optimistic to except a substantial reduction in clothing prices at an early date.
