Vol. 104 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Veterinary Surgeons' Petrol Allowance.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the monthly petrol allowance to veterinary surgeons, especially those who practise in country towns and whose duties necessitate long journeys through rural areas, is totally inadequate; and if he is prepared to increase substantially the monthly allowance to these practitioners, even at the expense of a reduction in the allowances to private motorists.

Allowances of petrol for motor vehicles are still insufficient to meet the requirements of owners, and I cannot undertake to meet the full requirements of veterinary surgeons. From January 1st an adjustment has been made in the basis on which allowances are granted to veterinary surgeons, and no further increase can be granted at present.
