Vol. 104 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Botanic Gardens Employees.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in what circum- stances were Messrs. McCabe and Yourelle employed in the Botanic Gardens; and whether these men's names were submitted by the employment exchange in the usual way.

The persons named were employed through contractors to fill vacancies for labourers on the Office of Public Works maintenance staff at the Botanic Gardens; the answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary say how long these men have been in this employment, how long it is proposed to retain them, and whether they came recently from the County Cavan?

McCabe has been employed since 2nd November, 1946, and Yourelle has been employed since the 8th May, 1945.

You cannot tell me whether they came from County Cavan or not?

Both were men who had national service. I do not mind whether they came from County Cavan or Ballaghaderreen.

I see. But in future they will come from County Clare, I suppose.
