Vol. 105 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vesting of Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why the holdings near Listowel, formerly part of the Earl of Listowel's estate, for which standard purchase annuities were fixed by a Judicial Commissioner on the 17th October, 1934 (Record No. S.1544), have not yet been vested in the tenants.

In past years adequate progress in the vesting of land in tenants and allottees was impossible by reason of prior staff engagements on land division programmes and subsequently on emergency duties. A big improvement has been achieved recently and every effort is being made to expedite this important work of vesting.

The cases mentioned by the Deputy will be dealt with when they are reached in the ordinary course and there will be no avoidable delay.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will take immediate steps to vest in the occupiers the additions of land on the J.N.S. Moroney estate, in the townlands of Lisblowick and Burnafauna, County Mayo.

The vesting in satisfactory allottees of these and all other allotments provided by the Land Commission will be proceeded with when the cases are reached in the ordinary course. There will be no avoidable delay.

Will the Minister say if it is the intention to resume three allotments that have been given to three widows on this particular estate?

I have no information about them.

May I point out that this farm has been allotted for a long number of years? The allotments are being worked satisfactorily, and I would ask the Minister to speed up the vesting of them in the holders. Will the Minister say if that will be done?

Vesting is proceeding very swiftly nowadays as compared to a few years ago. I can assure the Deputy that their cases will be taken in due order.

May I point out to the Minister that a grave hardship would be inflicted on the three widows who have allotments on this particular estate if it were the intention of the Land Commission to resume? I would ask him to restrain the Land Commission from doing so.
