Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter and Margarine Consumption.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the average weekly consumption of butter, in each of the years 1939 to 1946, inclusive; and the average weekly consumption of margarine during the same period.

Butter.—The average weekly consumption of creamery butter (in cwts.) during the years 1939/1946 was as follows:—

Margarine.—Owing to the scarcity of essential raw materials the production of margarine was suspended in August, 1941, and was not resumed until February, 1945. For the same reason production was suspended in May, 1946, and was not resumed until the beginning of February last. The average weekly consumption of margarine was as follows during the periods of production:—
