Vol. 108 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Jurymen's Expenses.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the continued hardships imposed on jurymen, many of whom travel long distances to serve on juries, with consequent loss and inconvenience; and if he is now prepared to introduce proposals for legislation to provide for the payment to jurymen of an amount equivalent to the expenses incurred by them in discharging their duties as jurors.

Mr. Boland

In some cases of exceptional hardship jurors receive certain payments out of public funds by way of recoupment of expenses incurred in the course of jury service. An extension of this arrangement is under consideration.
