Vol. 110 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Purchase in Congested Areas.

asked the Minister for Lands if he now proposes to have implemented his recent statements on land policy to the effect that the Land Commission should purchase all holdings for sale in the congested areas in the open market at a competitive price for the purpose of relieving congestion; and, if so, when he will introduce the necessary legislative proposals in Dáil Éireann.

I wish to assure the Deputy that the question of the best method of securing the maximum amount of suitable land for the relief of congestion in the congested districts and elsewhere will receive my fullest consideration.

That is not a reply to the question which I have on the Order Paper. I asked the Minister whether it is his intention to give effect to his statements of recent origin that he would have the Land Commission purchase land in the open market at a competitive price for the purpose of relieving congestion. I want an answer to that question. I want to know whether the Minister proposes to implement that policy.

Can anybody tell us when Deputy Moran first became so interested in this matter?

Is it in order for Parliamentary Secretaries to interfere with a private Deputy's question?

The trouble is that there is no Parliamentary Secretary and no Minister over there.

I have not yet received an answer to my question.

I have answered the question and I have nothing to add to my reply.

Hear, hear.

It is not an answer.
