Vol. 110 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Land Slum Problem.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether he intends to continue the migration scheme from the congested areas in the West of Ireland to the Midlands for the purpose of relieving the land slum problem; and, if so, if he will indicate the number of migrants he proposes to move from South Mayo this year.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

As regards the second part, it is not yet possible to say whether any tenants will be migrated from South Mayo this year.

Will the Minister state when he can let the people of South Mayo know when he proposes to continue the migration scheme and if, in fact, any people will be migrated from South Mayo this year?

Before he is 16 years in office, I suppose he will.

Do not try to save him now.

The question of bringing migrants from Mayo, which seems to interest Deputies so much, will depend, and does depend, on the available accommodation in outside counties and in County Mayo. I think the Deputy knows the situation quite as well as the Minister.

Will the Minister indicate what lands at present are available?

That is a separate question.

In view of the unsatisfactory reply which I have received, with your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, I intend to raise this matter on the adjournment.
