Vol. 110 No. 10

Written Answers to Questions. - Price of Turf.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared to guarantee a fair minimum price for turf produced by private turf producers during the present season.

It would be impracticable to fix minimum prices for turf produced by private producers as the cost of production, the quality of the turf and the conditions under which it is marketed vary too widely to permit of price calculation on any uniform basis. The guaranteeing of prices would entail the establishment of a central purchasing organisation which is also impracticable. In any event my function in regard to price control relates to maximum rather than minimum prices.
