Vol. 110 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Catering Licences.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that catering licences for restaurants are issued only to hotels approved by the Irish Tourist Board; and, if so, whether he will state if such approval is given only to luxury hotels; further, if he will take steps to ensure that small establishments will be granted similar facilities.

Since October, 1945, it has been the practice to make allowances of rationed foodstuffs available to newly-opened hotels registered with the Irish Tourist Board, in accordance with the provisions of the Tourist Traffic Act, 1939.

No allowances have been made to any other establishments which were not in existence before rationing was introduced, but I am considering the question of extending the grant of facilities to cover all cases, and hope to make an early announcement on the matter.
