Vol. 110 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leasing and Transfer of Dublin Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the leasing and transfer of lands within the City of Dublin which are affected by Section 65 of the Land Act, 1923, are still controlled by his Department, and, if so, whether he will consider ending this practice in view of the facts that the annuities have been redeemed and that the lands in question have long since ceased to be used for agricultural purposes.

Holdings to which the provisions of Section 65 of the Land Act, 1923, apply cannot be sub-divided or let by the proprietors without the prior consent of the Land Commission, whether the annuity is redeemed or not. The statutory restrictions imposed by that section could only be lifted by the introduction of fresh legislation.

Is the Minister aware that that position does not arise under the 1903 Act.

I am fully aware of it.

Is there any intention of bringing the 1923 Act into line?

I have not the slightest intention of altering Section 65 of the 1923 Act. We do not want more congestion.
