Vol. 110 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state if it is proposed, in accordance with previous practice, to increase the wages of the forestry workers following upon the increase in the wages of agricultural workers; and, if so, whether such increase will be retrospective to the date on which the wages of agricultural workers were raised.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that workers employed by the Forestry Branch of his Department are paid only the sum of 52/- per week; and, if so, whether he will state when it is proposed to grant an increase in their wages.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 13 and 14 together. This matter is under active consideration.

Is it not a fact that representations were previously made to the Minister by the Federation of Rural Workers and a number of Deputies on this question, with a view to having the wages of forestry workers increased to a figure in excess of that prescribed by the Agricultural Wages Board as an increase for agricultural labourers?

That is so.
