Vol. 110 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drumcondra Railway Line.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the railway through Drumcondra railway station serves a heavily-populated area of Dublin, and, if so, whether he will direct Córas Iompair Éireann to reopen this line for local passenger traffic and establish frequent local daily services on it.

A suggestion to this effect was made in the Report of the Inquiry into the Housing of the Working Classes of the City of Dublin, 1939-43. The matter was examined by Córas Iompair Éireann at the time, but they found that it would not be practicable.

Is the Minister aware that there were tens of thousands of people who could use that railway line, particularly in summer time for the purpose of getting out to the seaside? Will the Minister take the matter up now with Córas Iompair Éireann to see if the railway can now be reopened?

I will see that that matter is mentioned.
