Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Easba Leasuithe d'Fhatai.

D'fhiafruigh

den Aire Talmhaiochta an feasach dó nach féidir faoi láthair leasú speisialta na bhfataí a fháil i nGaillimh; agus an dtig leis a rá go mbeidh sé ar fáil arís go luath.

I am aware that farmers have not been able to obtain as much special potato fertiliser as they would like. This is due to a shortage of muriate of potash—one of the constituents of the fertiliser. The quantity of this fertiliser supplied in the area this season has exceeded last year's supply by over 20 per cent. I may add that next year I hope it will exceed it by any quantity which the growers may require.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he aware that in certain districts in County Galway people have not been able to get any quantity at all of this manure? Is he further aware that there is a rumour that supplies that were available were sent from Galway to other counties?

I am aware that the whole artificial fertiliser situation this year is utterly deplorable but I assure the Deputy that the like will not occur again.

Has the Minister any information that there were quantities of this manure available in Galway and that they were sent out of the county to other counties, for what reason has not been stated?

I have no such information. All I know is that the all-over situation in regard to fertilisers is deplorable. It will not occur again.
