Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commodore Hotel, Cobh.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state: (a) whether the Commodore Hotel, Cobh, was occupied by the Defence Forces during the emergency and, if so, (b) how long they were stationed there; (c) the rent paid for its use during the period of occupation, and (d) the compensation paid to the hotel whilst the troops were in occupation.

The hotel was occupied by the Defence Forces during the emergency for the periods (1) 1st January, 1942, to 18th March, 1942, and (2) 23rd November, 1942, to 5th March, 1943. The rent paid was £30 per month. Apart from the rates on the premises, which were paid by the commissioner of valuation, and the rent, no compensation was paid whilst the troops were in occupation.

Subsequent to the evacuations, sums amounting to £33 17s. 10d. were paid in compensation in respect of damage attributed to the millitary occupation.
