Vol. 112 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Training of Customs Preventive Staff.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is a fact that certain officials of the office of the Revenue Commissioners Preventive Staff are at present being trained in a British Customs college with a view to setting up a similar college in this country; and, if so, what is the cost of this training and what is the estimated cost of the setting up of the college.

The members of the Preventive Staff of the Office of the Revenue Commissioners attended for a course of training at the Waterguard Training Centre, Vintry House, Queen Street Place, London, in the months of April and May of this year at a cost of about £125, being the amount of travelling and subsistence expenses incurred by the two officers during their visit to London. The Revenue Commissioners intend that these officers shall act as instructors in a training centre for new entrants to the preventive grade which they propose to establish. Details of the cost of setting up and maintaining this centre have not yet been worked out, but it may be taken that the total cost will be inconsiderable.
