Vol. 114 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Furniture Timber.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that there is at present a shortage of suitable timber for the manufacture of furniture and that the position is so grave that a number of firms will be compelled to close down within the next three weeks if supplies do not become available; and, if so, whether he will state if this shortage has resulted from a reduction of the amount of dollar currency previously made available for such imports.

I am not aware that there is a shortage of suitable timber for the manufacture of furniture but I would be glad to have the matter inquired into if the Deputy will give me details.

I can say that if there is a shortage it is not due to the withholding of dollar currency for the purchase of timber.
