Vol. 114 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage in County Cork.

asked the Minister for Lands if he can now state the reasons for the delay in carrying out the drainage work on the Gaskell estate, Garryvoe, covering the townlands of Garryvoe Lower, Ardnahinch and Ballylongane in the Ballycotton Bay area.

Owing to more urgent demands on the inspectors available locally, it has not yet been possible to complete the investigations in this case.

I had a similar question down on the 19th May, 1948. I then complained that there had been a delay of two years and the Minister told me that the position would not be allowed to remain like that any longer. I would like the Minister to let me know then some action will be taken in this matter.

The difficulties that caused the delay that the Deputy referred to when he tabled his previous question have been removed, but the inspectors are on more urgent and important work and I have not the slightest intention of taking them off that work until it is completed. Then, if this particular job the Deputy is interested in is next in order of importance, the inspectors will be put on to it.

I wonder if the Minister could spare me a few minutes? I think I could enlighten him as to the importance of this work.

I will, of course.
