Vol. 115 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Position of Auxiliary Postmen.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is prepared to amend the existing regulations with a view to giving permanent and full-time employment to auxiliary postmen who have had ten years' service in a quasi-permanent part-time capacity.

Under existing regulations auxiliary postmen are given opportunities of securing full-time posts, either by confined examinations or by conversion where practicable of part-time posts to full-time working. It is the policy of the Department to abolish part-time duties as far as possible, but there are insuperable difficulties in providing full-time employment for auxiliary postmen as suggested by the Deputy.
