Vol. 116 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Water and Sewerage Services.

andMr. M.J. O'Higgins asked the Minister for Local Government if he can state (i) the reason for the delay on the part of Dublin Corporation in connecting water and sewerage services with houses at Baldoyle and St. Patrick's Cottages, Rathfarnham, which are the property of the corporation and (ii) the approximate date on which these services will be provided.

As was intimated to Deputy Rooney in reply to his question of 24th November, 1948, the cottages at Baldoyle were transferred from the Dublin Corporation to the Dublin County Council. An extensive scheme of renovation, which will include the provision of water and sewerage facilities is being prepared by the council. It will be necessary, however, to provide alternative accommodation for the residents before the improvements can be carried out and I understand that the Council are negotiating for the acquisition of a site for this purpose.

In regard to the cottages at Rathfarnham, I understand that a survey of the existing buildings by the Dublin Corporation is in course of preparation. The question of drainage will present difficulties and will require careful planning. In the circumstances I am unable to say at present when the services referred to will be provided for either group of cottages.
