Vol. 117 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farm Buildings Improvement Scheme

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will state (a) the number of applications received by his Department for grants under the farm building improvement scheme; (b) the number of applications granted; (c) the number of inspections carried out, and (d) when he hopes to have all applications received before 1st April, 1949, dealt with.

(a) Up to the 14th July, 1949, the number was 40,232; (b) 10,261 applicants had up to that date been authorised to commence works; (c) 15,251 initial inspections had been carried out up to the same date; (d) all applications received up to the date mentioned by the Deputy have been referred to the local officers, who are dealing with them as expeditiously as possible. To give an approximate reply to this part of the question would involve a reference to each local officer, and as the compilation of the returns would only have the effect of slowing up the work I would suggest that the Deputy should not press for this estimate.
