Vol. 117 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Unemployed Workers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will institute a special employment scheme to relieve the unemployed workers at Kilcommon, County Tipperary.

As the Deputy is aware, employment schemes are normally provided only in the winter months for rural areas in which a number of men are in receipt of unemployment assistance.

I have made inquiries as to the total number of men from the Kilcommon area at present registered as unemployed at the local office of the Department of Social Welfare and am informed that it is very small. The question of instituting a special employment scheme for the area does not therefore arise.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state how many men are registered as unemployed in the Kilcommon area?

The total number of unemployed men registered at the local office on 14th July in the Kilcommon electoral division and four adjoining electoral divisions was only five, four of whom were in receipt of unemployment benefit.
