Vol. 117 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Congestion (County Roscommon).

asked the Minister for Lands if any steps have been taken by the Land Commission towards acquiring the French Estate in the townland of Clooniquin, County Roscommon, for the relief of congestion.

The Land Commission investigated this case and decided to take no action for the present for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission are prepared to consider the advisability of acquiring the non-residential farm at Tonlagee, on the Reynolds Estate, belonging to Mr. Peter Kelly, for the relief of congestion.

The position here is unchanged since my reply to the Deputy's question of the 2nd March last.

Is the Minister aware that this question has been going on for the last 15 or 16 years, that the person concerned is not living on the farm and has never farmed the land, that he is living with two old age pensioner sisters, that there are three persons drawing the old age pension, that the land is being set and is not worked? There are a lot of congested holdings in the locality and it is very difficult to understand the attitude of the Land Commission in the matter. Will the Minister make further representations to the Land Commission in connection with this farm?
