Vol. 117 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Reservists in Subsidised Concerns.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that in some Government subsidised concerns the weekly pay of persons called up for army reserve training is stopped; and, if so, whether he will recommend to these firms that leave, with pay, be granted for this important training.

Other Deputies have already written to me about this matter and I have taken up the question with the concerns involved.

If the Deputy will communicate with me in regard to the specific cases of which he is aware, I shall see what can be usefully done about them.

Mr. Byrne

Would the Minister cause inquiries to be made in Aer Lingus to find out the number of men who have been called up to do their training and whose pay has been stopped or who have been compelled to do their training during their annual holidays? Will the Minister ensure that their holidays are not utilised for this purpose?

I have stated that if I get any references with regard to particular cases inquiries will be made, and that applies to Aer Lingus.
