Vol. 117 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Strands by Motorists.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the lives of children and adults are endangered on strands at places in North County Dublin, including Skerries, Rush, Donabate and Portmarnock, by the growing practice among motorists of driving cars at speed on these strands; and, if so, whether he will take steps to have the use of strands by motorists prevented.

I am advised that a strand of the type mentioned is a "public place" within the meaning of the Road Traffic Act, 1933, and persons who drive cars thereon are subject to the same restrictions as if they were on a public road. I am passing a copy of the Deputy's question to the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána.
